Deborah J. Riddell APN, CNM, DNP

Deborah received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Northern Illinois University in 1973 and shortly thereafter began working at the 1st hospital in Illinois to allow fathers to attend their children’s birth.  Deborah’s dream of serving women as a CNM became reality in 1982, and she received her Master of Science in 1983 and her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in 2012 from the University of Illinois Chicago.

She brought the concept of midwifery to Aurora and Fox Valley area in 1987—working to give women choosing hospital births the same personalized attention and alternative choices of women choosing home or birth center deliveries.

In 1997, she opened WomenFirst., a midwifery owned practice (rather than physician or hospital owned)  WomenFirst provided women’s healthcare with old fashioned, fundamental values: respect and compassion, expertise and personal attention.

In August 2016, after 34 years of practice, and countless nights delivering babies, Deb has moved her expertise to the university setting where she can share valuable years of experience with new providers of care.
